Struck down with disco fever!

Disco fever has just now taken hold of the fashion industry. Everywhere you look there are one-shoulder dresses, platform shoes, jumpsuits and big gold jewellery set with coloured stones in geometric shapes. All the bright colours, patterns and 70s-inspired cuts hark back to the decadent and glamorous disco era. Studio 54 is back!

The 1970s influences in fashion keep on coming and taking new forms. Right now it is more glitzy than ever. That disco fashion has been revived in New York is perhaps no surprise; since it was here where the legendary club Studio 54 was located. All the hot celebrities partied at Studio 54 back in the 1970s, from Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger to Donald Trump.

When Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs in his collection Marc by Marc Jacobs showed glam 70s fashions during New York fashion week, disco fever quickly spread like wildfire to this side of the Atlantic, where it was picked up on by a number of fashion houses.

The party trend is characterised by glossy fabrics, slinky dresses with bare shoulders or plunging necklines, trouser suits and platforms or high boots. To bring out your inner disco diva, go for wide leather belts, big gold jewellery with 70s-style detailing, such as large stones and pendants, medallions, feathers, tassels and snakeskin. Wear several pieces of jewellery at the same time, but don’t mix it up as freely as you would for the bohemian look. Preferably go for one necklace but several bracelets and rings. Earrings should be large and dangly.
