Hair donuts create the perfect buns
If there is a hairstyle we never tire of, it is the ballerina bun. A hotly sought-after accessory for creating a perfect, big bun is the hair donut. With this, you can create a hairstyle suitable for social occasions or everyday wear in next to no time, making producing a pretty bun as easy as pie. Read our step-by-step guide to creating this pretty, on-trend updo.
As is the case with most updos, a style will hold better if the hair is not freshly washed, as this can easily make the hair limp and unruly. If you have just washed your hair, use a salt water spray, mousse or other product to make it a little more manageable.
The hair donut comes in two colours; choose the light version if you have blonde hair or the dark one if you are a brunette.
How to do:
1. Gather the hair into a ponytail where you want the bun to sit. If you are heading out to a party, opt for a ponytail high up on the head. If you want a relaxed everyday look, set your ponytail lower down.
2. Thread the hair through the hair donut all the way to the scalp so that the donut sits over the hair elastic.
3. Now separate the ponytail and spread it out a section at a time over the donut until this is covered. If your hair is thin, you can backcomb the ponytail slightly to add volume and better cover the donut.
4. If you have shoulder-length hair, secure the hair with hairpins just under the donut. Use normal hairpins or u-pins. If you have longer hair, once you have separated the hair and arranged it to cover the donut, you can also twist the hair around the donut and secure it with a hair elastic.
