Fur continues to dominate the fashion industry this winter, despite the recession. Or perhaps even because of it, as fur is the best accessory for making an outfit look more luxurious than it actually is. Fashion houses are less interested in statement fur pieces, such as big fur coats, preferring instead to add fur in the form of detailing. A little goes a long way!

Fashion houses have demonstrated numerous ways of wearing fur in their autumn/winter shows. Fendi has gone for the classic ladylike look, Gucci has been playful, showing fur dyed plum, gold and green, while labels such as Cavalli and Isabel Marant have given fur a bohemian chic slant, creating a hip and trendy look.

No matter what the fashion house, fur appears in the form of detailing and accessories rather than complete garments as was the case in previous seasons. A fur gilet or knitted accessories with fur detailing or a fur hat will not only keep the cold at bay but will also ensure that you are on trend this winter. Or follow Alexander Wang’s example and opt for fur earmuffs!
